Definition
কারো সাথে কথা বলে তার সমর্থন জানার জন্য অথবা sentence – এর সত্যতা যাচাই করার জন্য sentence এর শেষে যে প্রশ্ন যোগ করা হয় তাকে Tag Question বলে ।
Example:
1) You are a student of class 9, aren't
you?
2) Kamal is my brother, Isn't he?
3) They are playing cricket, aren't they?

Negative Tag এর জন্য Operator + not এ সংক্ষিপ্ত রুপ বসে।

Rule-1:
প্রদত্ত sentence টি হ্যাঁ বোধক হলে Tag করার সময় না বোধক হবে। sentence টি না বোধক হলে Tag করার সময় হ্যাঁ বোধক হবে। যেমন-
i. He goes to school daily, doesn't he?
ii. Birds cannot swim, can they?
Rule-2:
প্রদত্ত sentence এ Auxiliary verb (am, is, are, was, were, have, had, has, do, does, did, may, might, shall, should, will, would, must, had to, dare, need) থাকলে Tag করার সময় Auxiliary verb + (not) + sub এ pronoun হবে। যেমন-
i. They were playing cricket, weren’t they?
ii. We must
obey our parents, mustn't we?
Rule-3:
Sentence টি past indefinite tense হলে Did দিয়ে প্রশ্ন হবে, আর present indefinite tense হলে Do বা Does (not) দিয়ে প্রশ্ন হবে। যেমন:
i. They play football every afternoon,
don't they?
ii. Babu plays cricket, doesn't he?
iii. Asif went to stadium to watch the cricket match, didn't he?
Rule-4:
কোনো sentence এর subject হিসেবে everyone, everybody, someone, somebody, anyone, anybody, none, nobody, থাকলে এদের pronoun they হয়। Tag করার সময় They অনুযায়ী Auxiliary verb বসাতে হবে। যেমন-
i. Everybody wants happiness, don’t they?
ii. Every
student wants GPA, don't they?
Rule-5:
Sentence এ subject হিসেবে all of us, us, everyone, of us থাকলে Tag করার সময় এদের পরিবর্তে we হয়। যেমন-
i. All of us are writing, aren't we?
ii. Some
of us are absent today, aren't we?
Rule-6:
Sentence এ subject হিসেবে common gender থাকলে এদের পরিবর্তে he বসে, কিন্তু শিশু থাকলে it বসে। যেমন-
i. The teacher is teaching us, isn't he?
ii. Man is mortal, is not he?
iii. The baby is crying, isn’t it?
Rule-7:
Sentence এ subject হিসেবে জড় বস্তু, ইতর প্রাণী, শিশু থাকলে Tag করার সময় propnoun হিসেবে it বসে। যেমন-
i. The baby is crying, isn't it?
ii. My pen writes well, doesn't it?
iii. A
barking dog seldom bites, does it?

Rule-8:
sentence এর subject হিসেবে চাঁদ, সূর্য, পৃথিবী, নদী, বড় জাহাজ, ট্রেন, দেশ, ফেরির নাম থাকলে এদের পরিবর্তে she বসে। যেমন:
i. Bangladesh is my motherland, isn't
she?
ii. The moon seen at night, isn't she?
iii. The earth is round, is not she?
iv. The Titanic sank, didn't she?
Note:
- sink – বস্তু বাচক কোনো কিছু ডুবে যাওয়া
- Drown- প্রাণী বাচক কোনো কিছু ডুবে যাওয়া
Rule-9:
Sentence এর subject হিসেবে There এবং one থাকলে Tag করার সময় there এবং one অপরিবর্তিত থাকে। যেমন-
i. One should do ones duty, shouldn’t one?
ii. There are three primary school in our
village, aren't there?
Rule-10:
Sentence এর subject হিসেবে Let us, Let's থাকলে tag করার সময় শুধু shall we হয়। যেমন-
i. Let us make a picnic, shall we?
ii. Let
us visit cox's Bazar, shall we?
Rule-11:
Imperative sentence যদি verb দিয়ে শুরু হয় তবে Tag করার সময় affermative বা negative sentence উভয় ক্ষেত্রে will বসে। যেমন-
i. Don't make a noise in the class, will you?
ii. Answer the following questions, will you?
Rule-12:
Never, no, nobody, hardly, seldom, scarcely, few, little etc. negative অর্থ প্রদান করে, তাই এ সকল word ব্যবহৃত sentence এর Tag করার সময় positive Tag করতে হবে। যেমন-
i. A banking dog seldom bites, does it?
ii. He hardly came here, did he?
iii. He scarcely does his duties, does he?
Rule- 13:
যদি Imperative
sentence টি verb দ্বারা শুরু হয় এবং তার দ্বারা অনুরোধ বোঝায় তাহলে Tag করার সময় can you / could you ব্যবহৃত হয়। যেমন-
i. Help me please, can you?
ii. Give me an apple, can you?
Rule-14:
Sentence এর subject হিসেবে this, that থাকলে এদের পরিবর্তে it হয়, এবং These ও those এর পরিবর্তে they হয়। যেমন-
i. This is a pen, isn't it?
ii. That is a fan, isn't it?
iii. These are my book, aren't they?
Rule-15:
To + verb অর্থ্যাৎ infinitive verb + ing অর্থ্যাৎ gerund কোনো sentence এর subject হিসেবে থাকলে Tag করার পরিবর্তে এদের পরিবর্তে it বসে। যেমন-
i. To tell a lie is a great sin, isn't
it?
ii. To err is human, isn't it?
Rule-16:
কোনো sentence এ subject হিসেবে the father (পিতৃত্ব), the
mother (মাতৃত্ব), the brother (ভ্রাতৃত্ব) থাকলে Tag করার সময় এদের পরিবর্তে it বসে। যেমন-
i. The father rises in him, doesn't
it?
Rule-17:
Sentence এর Subject হিসেবে As well as / along with /
accmpanied by থাকলে Tag করার সময় যে subject থাকবে সে অনুযায়ী pronoun হবে। যেমন-
i. Adnan along will his mother went to market, didn't he?
ii. I as well as Karim took meal, didn't I?
Rule-18:
Adjective যখন কোন বিশেষ শ্রেণিকে বোঝায়, তখন তার পূর্বে the বসে। এরূপ শ্রেণিবাচক Adjective কোন Statement sentence এর Subject হলে এর Pronoun হিসেবে Tag question এ they বসে। যেমন-
i. The rich are not always happy, ate they?
ii. The virtuous are happy, aren't they?
